Nanotechnology is rapidly changing the face of our world, broadening our view via unprecedented access to information, unique opportunities to influence our environment, and an ever growing ability to engineer materials for novel and previously unimaginable applications. With the right training and research experience, the opportunities are abysmal.
In this section, we introduce you to one of the finest and pioneering Nanotechnology Research Centers in the whole of United States - College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany – State University of New York. The CNSE-SUNY is a global education, research, development and technology deployment resource dedicated to preparing the next generation of scientists and researchers in nanotechnology.
The UAlbany CNSE is the first college in the world dedicated to education, research, development and deployment in the emerging disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience and anoeconomics. With more than $14 billion in high-tech investments, CNSE represents the world's most advanced university-driven research enterprise, offering students a one-of-a-kind academic experience and providing over 300 corporate partners with access to an unmatched ecosystem for leading-edge R&D and commercialization of nanoelectronics and nanotechnology innovations.
The degree programs provide a solid foundation in the emerging interdisciplinary fields of Nanoscale Science and Nanoscale Engineering in preparation for entry into the workforce or for further graduate study and research leading to a doctoral degree. Furthermore, they prepare scientists and engineers for effective participation in the management of nanotechnology based organizations. At CNSE, world-class academic pursuits in the following areas are combined with a focus on rapid transfer of novel concepts and ideas into industrial use.
Nanoscience refers to the observation, identification, description, discovery, experimental investigation, and theoretical interpretation of nanoscale phenomena.
Nanoengineering is the application of nanoscience principles to practical ends, such as the design, manufacture, and operation of efficient and functional structures, machines, processes, and systems on the atomic scale.
Nanobioscience refers to the application of nanoscale scientific concepts and principles to the study of biological and biomedical structures and systems. In addition, nanobioscience encompasses CNSE's NanoHealth initiative, which is aimed at developing novel nanotechnology applications in nanomedicine, including nanotoxicology and environmental and public health.
Nanoeconomics is the formulation, study, and analysis of the economic and business principles underlying the development and deployment of nanoscale know how, products, and systems.
To this end, they have established a unique industry-university government partnership model that provides access to state-of the-art 300mm wafer processing capabilities required for rapid insertion of such concepts into the mainstream manufacturing menu. CNSE provides an environment that bridges the gap between university research opportunities and manufacturing implementation. Source: EDU Club magazine, PAC Asia
